We all crave adventure. That’s why adventurous movies and video games are so popular. We love stories in which the hero or heroine solves mysteries, overcomes risks and succeeds triumphantly at the end. We want to be that heroic person and secretly fantasize about it. We want to be James Bond, or Indiana Jones, or Trinity from the Matrix films. We want to feel bold, daring, and very, very alive, but mostly we just eat our granola and finish the laundry, then eat take-out food in front of the television.
So how do we find the adventure we lack? Feel like there’s no way out? Oh, but there is, you just have to unlock it. If you crave adventure, try an escape room. What is an escape room? You pay somebody to lock you and some of your friends or family in a specially designed room. Suddenly, you are in the midst of a plot, with danger looming nearby. If you solve all the riddles and puzzles, find the clues and get yourselves out within sixty minutes, you win and get great bragging rights.
We enjoy life more when we are learning and experiencing new things.
Neuroscientist Gregory Berns, M.D. at Emory University, confirms that novelty is good for our brains. Researchers have long known that endorphins and other hormones released during times of excitement relieve stress and enhance pleasure.
Most people like to solve puzzles, or read a good mystery. That’s because curiosity is good for us. But the way we approach new experiences tends to change as we grow older. Children tend to find excitement everywhere. When presented with a puzzle, a child will dive right in, turning knobs, pushing buttons, trying to see what works and what doesn’t. Teens crave excitement, but opportunities to experience thrilling situations can be rare and risky. As we grow older, it becomes even more difficult. We become cautious. Our need for order and predictability takes over. Fear of failure keeps us from trying new things. We think a crisis is something like a broken furnace, or a transmission failure. Unexpected situations become something to fear and dread, not an opportunity for challenge and fun.
At EscapeWorks Denver, right in the heart of downtown Denver, you can escape from ordinary life. Be a part of a casino heist. Or solve the mystery of the missing archeologist. Or work to escape just in time to lead your championship football team to victory.
It’s safer than jumping out of an airplane. More fun than watching a movie, or playing a video game. Remember what Helen Keller said, “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
Whether you escape within the time limit or not, the next time somebody asks what you did this weekend, you’ll have a great story to tell. For more information, contact us.
This place is so much fun. It’s great as a team building activity or even just a fun time with friends. All the rooms are really challenging and require focus and attention to detail! I’ve done all the rooms at the convention center location and will now do the rooms at the ballpark location.

Our team did the vampire slayer escape room and we had a blast! The employees helped us get settled in at the beginning and were able to provide clues as needed throughout. The setup of the space was super awesome and in theme.
